Music Director
Wilson Ong
Wilson is the Music Director of the Mus’Art Wind Orchestra and is currently pursing his master’s degree in conducting at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore and is studying
under Jason Lai. He is part of the pioneering batch of students who graduated from the conservatory in 2007. His teachers include, Allen Meek, Chan Tze Law, Douglas Bostock, John Boyd and Hardy Mertens.
In July 2017, he led the Mus’Art Youth Wind Orchestra to the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Holland, and achieved a gold medal with distinction. He also recently won the first prize in the Douglas Bostock conducting competition in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wilson is an active musician in the classical, jazz and pop scenes, having performed with artistes such as Wynton Marsarlis, Tan Dun, Frankie Valli, Paul Anka, Iskandar Ismail, Stephanie Sun, Laura Fygi and Lang Lang. He has worked in productions such as Les Miserables, West Side Story, Caberet, Chang and Eng, Madame Butterfly and Tosca.
He also holds a diploma in Mass Communication from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. An ardent believer in the transformative abilities of music, Wilson has brought music education to the Changi Prisons, helping inmates in their rehabilitation process.
Through innovative and creative programming, Wilson hopes to introduce more people to the world of classical and instrumental music.
